USA wins 2026 World Wheelchair Rugby Championship

The United States has won the 2026 World Wheelchair Rugby Championship, securing its first world title in 16 years. The U.S. defeated the Australian Steelers 57-51 in the final held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The American team reached the final after a narrow 50-49 semifinal victory over Japan. In the championship match, the U.S. avenged their 2022 final loss to Australia.

Australia's Steelers earned the silver medal despite a dominant tournament run where they won all matches prior to the final by nine tries or more. Australian captain Chris Bond expressed pride in the squad's performance, noting the team's strength as they look toward the LA 2028 Paralympic Games.
