USATF Outdoor Championships Highlights Top US Women in 5,000m and 10,000m

Yale alum Kayley DeLay returned to the USATF Outdoor Championships in New York to run the women's 5,000m. DeLay, who holds the Yale school record (15:39.11) and posted a personal best of 15:05.96 in 2024, qualified for the event with a 5K time of 15:07.77 at the Sunset Tour in Los Angeles. She opted to focus on the 5K after withdrawing from the steeplechase, adding to her history of multiple USATF and Olympic Trials appearances.

At the same meet, Arkansas alums Sydney Vaught and Katie Izzo finished first and second in the women's 10,000m. Vaught won in 33:30.60, becoming the first Arkansas alum to capture the USATF 10K title since 2009, while Izzo placed second in 33:36.98. Vaught said, "My coach and I talked about just relaxing that first half... I felt like we’re going to race 5K now," and added, "I went into this race wanting to win." Izzo noted, "I wasn’t really sure how I would go, because of the New York weather," but was pleased with her performance.
