USB4 storage enclosures reach speeds of 3,840 MB/s in tests
High-performance USB4 storage enclosures are seeing increased adoption among Mac and iPad users seeking to bypass hardware limitations. In recent performance tests, a Qwiizlab USB4 enclosure achieved transfer speeds of 3,840 megabytes per second, while a fanless UGREEN model reached up to 3,600 megabytes per second.
Comparatively, standard 10 Gbit/s M.2 SSD enclosures, such as those from SSK, UGREEN, and SABRENT, achieved speeds near 1,000 megabytes per second. The actual performance of these devices remains heavily dependent on the host connection used.
In the networking sector, Sonnet has released the Solo10G T5, a Thunderbolt-5 accessory designed to add a 10-GbE-RJ45 port to M-series Mac and iPad Pro models. The device supports Thunderbolt 3, 4, and USB4 standards and requires macOS 15 or the latest iPadOS for operation.
