Safety Inspection Completed on Katra‑Srinagar Section of Udhampur‑Srinagar‑Baramulla Rail Link

Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety Dinesh Chand Deshwal finished a detailed safety inspection of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra‑Srinagar stretch of the Udhampur‑Srinagar‑Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). The review covered tracks, tunnels, bridges, stations, signalling systems, passenger amenities and emergency response arrangements. Officials, including Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar, were briefed on the findings; the CRS expressed satisfaction with construction quality and safety standards and issued suggestions to be addressed before passenger services begin.

The 272‑kilometre USBRL, built at a cost of Rs 43,780 crore, links the Kashmir Valley to the national railway network and is expected to cut the road journey between Jammu and Srinagar from about seven hours to three‑four hours by rail, providing an all‑weather corridor for the region.
