USC vanity license plate offered for sale at $675,000

A rare California vanity license plate reading ‘USC’ has been put up for sale, with owners estimating it could fetch $675,000 or more. If sold at this price, it would become one of the most expensive license plates ever sold in the United States.

The plate dates back to 1970, the year California introduced personalized plates. It was originally chosen by James Stone Sr. to honor his family’s connection to the University of Southern California. The plate remained with the Stone family for over five decades before being sold to Jeff Grotewold, who has used it on his fishing truck.

Marketing efforts for the plate are expected to include features on USC’s official social media platforms on August 31. A sale at the projected price would significantly exceed the value of other notable USC memorabilia, such as Charles White’s Heisman Trophy, which sold for nearly $300,000 in 2006.
