US‑China Trade Talks Secure 200‑Jet Boeing Order and Soybean Commitment

During President Donald Trump’s meeting with Xi Jinping in Beijing, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that China has committed to purchasing 200 Boeing aircraft, exceeding the manufacturer’s original request for 150 jets. The deal, worth tens of billions of dollars at list prices, is described as a major boost for Boeing’s production backlog and a key element of the administration’s "America First" trade agenda.

Bessent also said that China’s existing purchase commitment under the Busan agreement covers U.S. soybean imports for the next three years, removing the need for additional buying targets. Soybeans, the top U.S. export to China, have seen their share of Chinese imports fall from 41% in 2016 to about 15% last year. The agreements are part of a broader push to rebalance U.S.-China trade, including the creation of bilateral boards to oversee commerce and investment.
