USCIS announces expiration dates for Temporary Protected Status

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has provided updated timelines regarding the expiration of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for several nationalities. For Salvadoran beneficiaries, employment authorization documents (EAD) remain valid until September 9, 2026.

For Venezuelan nationals, specific exceptions apply. Individuals who re-enrolled under the 2023 designation and held documents issued on or before February 5, 2025, may maintain work authorization and valid documentation until October 2, 2026. This group represents a significant portion of the affected population, as over 615,000 Venezuelans face the loss of protection.

In response to these changes, Alianza Americas—a coalition of approximately 100 organizations and 170 religious leaders—has petitioned the Department of Homeland Security to extend TPS. Meanwhile, Salvadoran official Karina Sosa expressed concern over the uncertainty and anxiety facing migrant communities, calling for better communication between U.S. and Salvadoran authorities to alleviate fears regarding legal status.
