USCIS issues strict 90-day deadline for conditional Green Card holders

US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a reminder regarding strict deadlines for conditional two-year Green Card holders. Unlike standard permanent residents who follow a routine renewal process, conditional residents must file a formal petition to remove the conditions on their status before their card expires.

To avoid the permanent loss of residency status, individuals must submit their petition within a specific 90-day window immediately preceding the card's expiration date. Missing this window carries the risk of losing permanent residency entirely, as there is no grace period.

The required documentation depends on how the residency was obtained. Those who obtained status through family-based pathways, such as marriage to a US citizen, must file Form I-751 (Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence).
