USD/JPY exchange rate remains range-bound amid US inflation and AI bubble concerns

The USD/JPY exchange rate has remained in a range between 157 and 159 yen for approximately one month. Despite stronger-than-expected US Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) data, the US dollar failed to sustain significant gains. This trend is attributed to market concerns regarding a potential decline in equity markets, specifically linked to fears of an AI-driven bubble burst following a sharp drop in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index (SOX).

In Australia, the Australian dollar faced downward pressure following weak September employment data, which showed a decrease of 3.95 million workers against an expected increase of 20,000. Additionally, the NAB Business Confidence and Sentiment indices showed stagnation, reflecting concerns over rising funding costs and slowing economic growth.

Looking ahead, market participants are monitoring the potential for a breakout in the USD/JPY pair, which may be driven by whether global stock markets continue to decline or if Japanese equities see a significant sell-off by foreign investors.
