USDOT awards $200 million for nationwide truck parking projects
The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded $200 million to fund 14 truck parking expansion projects across 12 states through the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects (INFRA) program. The initiative aims to improve supply chain efficiency and reduce fatigue-related accidents by providing safe parking for drivers along critical freight corridors.
Among the recipients is Cameron County, Texas, which was allocated $9.18 million for the Los Indios Bridge Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Parking Facility. This project involves reconstructing portions of Rio Grande Avenue to provide access to a new facility near the Los Indios Port of Entry. The site will feature approximately 305 dedicated truck parking spaces, driver amenities, enhanced security, an automated weigh station, and intelligent parking technology.
Other highlighted projects include the Interstate 49 Truck Parking Safety Rest Area in Arkansas, which will accommodate approximately 137 trucks, and a commercial motor vehicle parking facility in Needles, California, located near the I-40/CA-95 interchange.
