Used car repair costs rise to 764 euros on average

The average cost of repairing used vehicles is rising. According to an annual analysis by CarGarantie, which examined approximately one million expired warranty contracts, the average repair cost in 2025 reached about 764 euros, up from 718 euros in 2024.

This increase is attributed to rising prices for spare parts and labor, as well as the growing technological complexity of modern cars. Electronic systems, control units, and electrical components are making repairs more intricate and expensive. In 2025, electrical systems became the most frequent cause of failure in used cars, accounting for 23.2% of claims, up from 21.5% the previous year.

While the engine remains the component with the highest impact on total compensation value at 24.2%, its share has decreased from 26% in 2024. The fuel system, including turbochargers, represents 17.2% of costs.

In the context of vehicle valuation, tools like Eurotax serve as industry standards for estimating used car values. Accurate valuation requires decoding specific model codes, engine types, and trim levels, as well as adjusting for mileage and vehicle condition to avoid significant pricing errors.
