Used electric car sales rise 45% in first half of year

Sales of used pure‑electric cars in Spain increased by 45.3% in the first six months of the year, reaching 18,677 units. Used plug‑in hybrid models also grew sharply, up 49% to 28,552 units, representing 4.3% of all used‑car transactions.

The overall used‑car market expanded by almost 2% in the same period, with total sales of cars and SUVs reaching 1,091,218 units – a 1.9% rise year‑on‑year. June alone saw 186,775 used‑vehicle registrations, 6.5% higher than June last year, driven by a 17% jump in sales of three‑to‑five‑year‑old models. Rentals contributed notably, with cars from rent‑a‑car fleets up 21% in June and overall rent‑a‑car used‑car transactions rising 15.5%. Semi‑new vehicles (less than one year old) posted a 15.7% increase.

Traditional fuel vehicles posted modest declines: used diesel cars fell 4.2% and gasoline models slipped 0.3% during the first half of the year.
