Electric vehicle market shows divergent pricing and growth trends

The electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing divergent trends across Europe and Turkey. In some regions, the used EV market is seeing price increases due to high demand and rising fuel costs. For instance, in Spain, average used EV prices rose by 6% compared to 2025, while France saw a 9.7% increase. In Turkey, while new EV registrations accounted for 18.1% of new car sales in the first eight months of 2026, they represent only 2.6% of the total vehicle fleet.

Conversely, other segments face significant depreciation. Tesla Roadster collectors are seeing values fall, and some markets are seeing a flood of three-year-old leasing returns. These vehicles often face steep price cuts of 30% to 50% due to rapid technological advancements and concerns regarding battery health. Battery replacement costs, ranging from 8,000 to 18,000 euros, remain a major financial risk for used buyers.

Infrastructure development continues to expand, notably in Romania, where the electric vehicle fleet has surpassed 75,000 units and public charging points have exceeded 10,000. However, technical challenges remain, with reports indicating that only 84.6% of charging sessions are successfully completed despite high equipment uptime.
