Used electric vehicles offer significant fuel savings in Canada
A report by Clean Energy Canada indicates that used electric vehicles (EVs) can provide substantial monthly savings compared to gasoline-powered cars. For a typical SUV driver, switching to a used EV could save approximately $200 per month in fuel costs alone.
Analysis shows that many used EVs are priced near or below the cost of equivalent gasoline models. In Canada, 36% of analyzed listings were priced under $30,000, while 24% fell between $30,000 and $40,000. However, the used EV market is highly concentrated, with 92% of listings located in British Columbia, Quebec, and Ontario.
While over 90% of potential buyers express concern regarding battery longevity, the report notes that battery replacements for models from 2022 onwards are rare, occurring in only 0.3% of cases and typically under warranty. Additionally, EVs feature significantly fewer moving parts than internal combustion engines, potentially reducing long-term maintenance requirements.
