Veteran playback singer Usha Mangeshkar will be conferred the Bhupen Hazarika Award during the centenary celebrations of the legendary Assamese singer-composer. The ceremony is scheduled for November 29 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the award, which includes a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, recognizes Mangeshkar’s contributions to Indian music. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the commemorative programme marking the 100th birth anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika.

Hazarika, born in 1926, was a prominent cultural icon known for music that addressed social justice, equality, and communal harmony. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2019.
