Usha Vance stumbles on helicopter stairs while carrying infant son

Second Lady Usha Vance briefly lost her footing while descending the stairs of the vice presidential helicopter at Joint Base Andrews on Monday, October 5. At the time of the incident, she was carrying her nine-week-old son, Alec Neel Vance, in a chest carrier and holding a diaper bag.

Video footage shows that as she approached the bottom of the steps, she appeared to miss a step and briefly lost her balance. She managed to steady herself by grabbing a railing, preventing a fall. Following the stumble, she appeared to reassure those nearby, with lip-readers suggesting she told service members, “I’m okay, and he’s fine.”

The Vance family was departing Maryland for Alaska, where Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to campaign for Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. The trip marks Usha Vance’s 50th state visit. The incident has since gained attention on social media, with some viewers questioning why military personnel on the tarmac did not move to assist her during the stumble.
