Ushuaia Chamber of Commerce seeks action against teacher protest camp

The Ushuaia Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism has called for measures to address a protest camp established by the Unified Union of Fuegian Education Workers (SUTEF) on San Martín Street. Daniel González, president of the Chamber, stated that the blockade of this major central artery is disrupting traffic and reducing customer flow for local businesses.

González noted that the protest is occurring during the peak winter tourist season, which may negatively impact the city's image and tourism investment. While he clarified that he is not intervening in the underlying dispute between the provincial government and the teachers' union, he emphasized that protests should not impede the movement of other workers and residents. Local merchants have reported a noticeable decline in customers in the areas surrounding the encampment.
