Ushuaia Mayor meets with deputies to discuss South Atlantic sovereignty
Ushuaia Mayor Walter Vuoto met with 33 national deputies from various provinces to discuss the defense of national sovereignty and the strategic role of Ushuaia regarding the bicontinental Argentine territory.
During the meeting held at Casa Ushuaia in Buenos Aires, Vuoto presented reports on issues affecting Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica, and the South Atlantic Islands. Key topics included the Integrated Naval Base, industrial promotion, infrastructure development, connectivity, and military presence in the far south.
Vuoto emphasized the need for long-term strategic planning to strengthen Argentine presence through infrastructure, production, and population settlement. He specifically highlighted the importance of the Integrated Naval Base and the Petrel Base in Antarctica. Additionally, he addressed geopolitical and economic interests in the South Atlantic, noting British advances in the islands, particularly regarding oil interests in the Malvinas Basin. To ensure permanent institutional oversight, Vuoto proposed the creation of a Bicameral Commission to monitor policies related to sovereignty, natural resources, and defense in the region.
