Ushuaia Mayor Walter Vuoto has rejected a decision by the Argentine national government to authorize the sale of over 38 hectares of state-owned land. The move follows the issuance of Decree 764/2026, signed by President Javier Milei and Chief of Staff Diego Santilli.

The decree authorizes the State Asset Administration Agency (AABE) to dispose of and sell a plot measuring 382,594.79 square meters. The government's decree classifies the properties as unnecessary or idle. The land is located in a strategic area of Ushuaia, near the provincial legislature, and is bounded by Yaganes, Héroes ARA San Juan, Héroes de Malvinas Avenue, and Horeb streets.

Mayor Vuoto criticized the administration, stating that the land is not idle but represents the heritage of the people of Tierra del Fuego. He warned of the negative impact the sale would have on the city's development and questioned the use of an administrative decree to bypass previous debates regarding land laws.
