Ushuaia municipality plans 2026–2027 public works amid funding challenges
The Municipality of Ushuaia is planning its 2026–2027 public works season, focusing on street repairs, repaving, and improvements to plazas and sports areas. Carolina Yutrovic, Secretary of Planning, Works, and Public Services, noted that current municipal resources are insufficient to meet these goals due to a declining budget. To address this, the administration is seeking additional funding through the Productive Matrix Expansion Fund (FAMP) and requesting increased budget allocations from local council members.
In a related development, the city has begun paving De Los Ñires street, a project valued at approximately 3.1 billion pesos. This work, awarded to the company Canga, utilizes a shared financing model under Municipal Ordinance No. 6,600, where residents cover 80% of the costs and the municipality covers 20%. Officials suggest this ‘contribution by improvements’ model could serve as a template for future infrastructure projects across different sectors of the city given the current economic climate.
