Ushuaia Port environmental inspectors denied entry by ANPyN

Technical teams from the Ministry of Production and Environment have reportedly been denied entry to the Port of Ushuaia on three separate occasions by the national authority, ANPyN. The provincial ministry intended to conduct environmental controls, including processing the port's environmental certification, monitoring water resources, and managing hazardous waste from vessels.

Lisi Cristófano, the Legal Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized the necessity of these inspections to ensure the traceability of hazardous waste. She stated that monitoring the discharge process is essential to verify that waste is handled by authorized operators in compliance with current environmental regulations. Cristófano contested ANPyN's refusal to recognize provincial jurisdiction, asserting that the provincial authority is competent to perform these routine environmental oversight tasks.
