Ushuaia Port workers report contracting inconsistencies

Workers at the Port of Ushuaia have raised concerns regarding significant inconsistencies in recent contracting processes driven by the federal intervention. Labor representatives report substantial increases in costs for services that were previously managed at much lower rates.

Specifically, a hygiene and safety contract that previously cost approximately $25 million annually has reportedly risen to an official value of $304 million. Workers also claim that tasks formerly performed by permanent staff, such as cleaning, maintenance, and perimeter repairs, are being outsourced to third parties. This shift has led to allegations of a ‘disguised privatization’ of port services.
