Ushuaia producers cultivate cold-adapted chickens for blue egg production
In Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, Nelson Ginter and his wife María Alejandra Pirchio have developed a specialized poultry operation capable of producing blue eggs despite the harsh Patagonian climate.
Operating with 115 birds across an urban residence and a lot in Punta Paraná, the couple has transformed a hobby into a vital supply link for local high cuisine. Ginter, a former truck driver who relocated to Tierra del Fuego, began raising common chickens in the early 1990s. The operation reached a higher qualitative level through collaboration with the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), which introduced specific laying hens adapted to the extreme southern conditions.
