Taxi operators seek regulatory relief in Argentina and Colombia

Taxi operators in several regions are facing economic challenges and regulatory shifts. In Argentina, taxi associations in Ushuaia and La Plata are seeking relief. Ushuaia's Taxi Association has proposed extending the useful life of vehicles from 10 to 13 years to help owners cope with economic difficulties. In La Plata, drivers have declared a state of alert, organizing protests against illegal transport and digital applications, while also requesting an extension of vehicle age limits to 18 years to prevent the loss of hundreds of operating licenses. Additionally, the Municipality of La Rioja is working to regulate digital platforms like Uber and Didi to ensure safety and legal compliance while preserving jobs.

In Colombia, the Ministry of Transport has implemented emergency measures for taxi drivers in earthquake-affected zones. Under Resolution 20263040038685, the Planilla Única de Viaje Ocasional (PUVO) will be issued free of charge for drivers operating in these territories. This temporary measure, valid for up to six months, aims to facilitate mobility and reduce administrative costs for transport workers during the recovery period.
