Ushuaia to hold earthquake and tsunami evacuation drill
The Civil Protection Secretariat of Tierra del Fuego has scheduled an evacuation drill for November 11 at 9:00 a.m. in a designated area of Ushuaia. The exercise will simulate a two-stage emergency: an initial earthquake followed by a tsunami.
Participants will first move to designated meeting points during the seismic phase, then evacuate to a safe zone located on Gobernador Paz Street once tsunami alarms are activated. Technical assessments have established a 20-meter safety elevation for the evacuation area.
The drill is part of the ‘Zona Austral Resiliente’ binational project, a collaborative effort between the Argentine province and Chile’s SENAPRED. Approximately 16 institutions and over 150 personnel, including security forces, emergency teams, and medical staff, will participate to improve institutional coordination and strengthen local disaster prevention culture.
