Ushuaia to monitor pet ownership in Bahía Encerrada Reserve

The Municipality of Ushuaia has announced a series of periodic inspections in the Bahía Encerrada Urban Natural Reserve to ensure responsible pet ownership. The initiative is a joint effort between the Directorate of Zoonosis and the Secretariat of Environmental, Cultural, and Educational Policies, supported by Environmental Guards.

The primary goal of these controls is to enforce Municipal Ordinance No. 4.800 and the reserve’s Management Plan, which aims to conserve natural environments and protect local wildlife. Officials noted that uncontrolled pets, particularly dogs, pose a significant threat to the area's biodiversity, specifically through the predation of birds and their nests.
