US‑Iran agreement fuels record $336 billion wealth surge for the world’s 500 richest
A provisional agreement between the United States and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz triggered a historic surge in billionaire wealth. At the close of the New York trading day on 15 June, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index recorded a $336 billion increase in the collective fortunes of the 500 richest individuals – the largest single‑day gain ever – raising total billionaire wealth to a record $13.3 trillion.
The market rally was driven largely by SpaceX’s recent initial public offering, which lifted the company’s market value by about 20 %. The surge added roughly $164 billion to Elon Musk’s net worth, pushing his wealth above $1.27 trillion and cementing his status as the world’s first trillionaire. The twelve lowest‑ranking members of the list each now hold $7.9 billion, the highest entry point ever recorded. The 50 wealthiest now control about $6.5 trillion, nearly matching the $6.8 trillion held by the remaining 450 billionaires.
