Mamelodi Sundowns and USM Alger to face off in CAF Super Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns and USM Alger are set to compete for the CAF Super Cup title this Sunday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa. The match pits the reigning CAF Champions League winners, Mamelodi Sundowns, against the CAF Confederation Cup champions, USM Alger.

USM Alger arrives in South Africa with a determination to secure their second Super Cup title, following their 2023 victory over Al Ahly. Despite facing absences due to injuries to Houssam-Eddine Ghacha and Mohamed Bouderbala, the squad remains optimistic. Coach Lamine N’Diaye has emphasized a tactical approach aimed at neutralizing the South African side’s offensive capabilities.

Mamelodi Sundowns enters the final seeking to bolster their recent continental success, which includes winning the CAF Champions League. While the club faced a recent early exit from the current Champions League competition, midfielder Nuno Santos has stated that the team is strictly focused on the Super Cup. Sundowns will benefit from home-field advantage, a factor former USM Alger player Samir Amirat noted could be decisive in the encounter.
