USMNT coach Pochettino announces roster with youth focus

United States Men’s National Team head coach Mauricio Pochettino has announced a 28-man roster for the upcoming September and October international window, signaling a major youth movement as the team begins its cycle toward the 2030 World Cup.

In a notable shift, star forward Christian Pulisic was omitted from the squad. Reports suggest the decision stems from a combination of fitness concerns following a microfracture sustained during the 2026 World Cup and roster selection preferences. Other established players, including Folarin Balogun and Tim Weah, were also left out.

The new roster features 13 newcomers, including 16-year-old Philadelphia Union prospect Cavan Sullivan, who could become the youngest player to debut for the USMNT in two decades. Other rising talents called up include goalkeeper Diego Kochen, and outfield players such as Julian Hall, Mathis Albert, and Zavier Gozo.

The USMNT is scheduled to play a series of friendlies against Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Canada throughout the window.
