USPS supervisor guilty of stealing $369K in checks

A United States Postal Service supervisor, Benita D. Randle, 43, has pleaded guilty to stealing mail containing checks from the St. Louis Processing and Distribution Center. Between September and October 2023, Randle stole 89 checks belonging to dozens of victims, with a total face value of $369,248. She provided the mail to John W. Harrison, 26, who opened the envelopes and removed the checks.

The scheme was discovered following the repossession of a leased vehicle. During the repossession, police found a backpack containing Harrison's belongings, including an AR-style handgun, cocaine, fentanyl, and loose checks. Investigators determined that Randle had lied to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General regarding her job duties and access to mail.

Both Randle and Harrison face up to five years in prison and fines of up to $250,000. Randle is scheduled for sentencing on August 20, while Harrison is scheduled for June 3.
