USPS worker charged with animal cruelty in Pasadena peacock attack

A U.S. Postal Service worker has been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty following an August 18 incident in Pasadena involving a white peacock known as Sugar. Los Angeles County prosecutors identified the suspect as Charanjit Singh, a 48-year-old resident of Rosemead.

The charges follow the release of security footage showing a postal worker throwing a rock at the bird and subsequently striking it with a club or stick. The attack occurred in the 3700 block of Mohawk Street after the bird was found injured.

The Pasadena Humane Society reported that the peacock recovered from its injuries, which included swelling, and has since been relocated to a private ranch in Northern California to ensure its long-term well-being and safety.
