USS George Washington conducts operations near Iran
The USS George Washington is conducting operations in the Arabian Sea near the Strait of Hormuz to support a U.S. blockade against Iran and protect commercial vessels from missile and drone threats. The aircraft carrier, carrying approximately 5,000 personnel, fighter jets, and munitions, has been observed conducting nighttime flight operations, including the launch of F-35C fighter jets.
To protect the carrier, four to five guided-missile destroyers provide a screen against potential attacks. This increased naval presence follows reports from the Navy that Iran attempted to target U.S. warships with ballistic missiles. The carrier’s commanding officer, Capt. Nicholas Deleo, stated that the vessel is trained for both offensive and defensive actions against air and sea threats in the region.
