USS George Washington deployed near Strait of Hormuz amid Iran conflict
The USS George Washington is currently operating near the Strait of Hormuz as part of a US military mission involving conflict with Iran. The deployment, which began in late August from Japan to relieve another carrier, arrived during a period of high tension following a US military strike on five Iranian oil tankers. The strike was reportedly in retaliation for Iran targeting a US Navy warship.
The aircraft carrier houses approximately 5,000 personnel performing various specialized roles, including aviation ordnancemen, aircraft handling officers, and catapult supervisors. The mission currently has no defined end-date.
