USS George Washington sailors visit Da Nang, Vietnam
From July 30 to August 5 2026, more than 6,000 crew members of the U.S. aircraft carrier USS George Washington were hosted in Da Nang, Vietnam. The municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with Visit Indochina Company to organise tours that included the Non Nuoc stone‑carving village, the century‑old Huong Lang Co fish‑sauce workshop, local markets such as Con and Han, and major attractions like the Hai Van Pass and Marble Mountains. Sailors sampled regional specialties including Mi Quang, bánh xèo, sidewalk coffee and coconut ice cream, and praised the city’s safety, cleanliness and the friendliness of residents.
Local business owners and tour guides reported warm welcomes, noting that many sailors were impressed by the English proficiency of locals and the authentic cultural experiences offered. The visit was presented as a “golden opportunity” to promote Da Nang’s image and strengthen people‑to‑people ties between the United States and Vietnam.
