USS Ross arrives in Mombasa for scheduled port visit

The United States Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71) arrived at the Port of Mombasa for a scheduled visit on September 5, 2026. The arrival follows the ship’s support of operation ‘Epic Fury’ against Iran.

US Embassy Kenya Chargé d’Affaires Susan M. Burns stated that the visit demonstrates the practical strength of the US-Kenya security partnership and their shared regional interests. The visit allows US forces to utilize established logistical support arrangements, maintain naval readiness, and engage in professional exchanges with Kenyan maritime partners.

USS Ross commanding officer Cmdr. Pia Chapman noted that the port call provides the crew an opportunity to rest and recharge following a demanding deployment. The visit also supports local economic activity and strengthens cooperation in countering illicit maritime activities in the East Africa and western Indian Ocean regions.
