USS San Antonio arrives at Manta port in Ecuador

The USS San Antonio (LPD-17), a United States Navy amphibious transport dock, has arrived at the port of Manta, Ecuador. The 208-meter vessel is currently docked for logistical purposes, specifically for the procurement of food and supplies.

This visit occurs amid strengthening maritime security cooperation between Ecuador and the United States to combat narcotics trafficking. Defense Minister Gian Carlo Loffredo previously announced the arrival of two warships and three Black Hawk helicopters to support Ecuadorian operational capacity in monitoring and intercepting drug-trafficking vessels at sea.

The USS San Antonio is capable of transporting up to 699 marines and operating various aircraft, including CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters and MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft. The Manta Port Authority has not yet specified the duration of the stay or any additional scheduled activities.
