USS Shiloh decommissioned after 34 years of service

The United States Navy officially decommissioned the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG-67) during a ceremony at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on September 30. The event marked the end of 34 years of operational service for the vessel.

Commissioned on July 18, 1992, and built by Bath Iron Works, the USS Shiloh participated in various combat and humanitarian missions. Notable operations included launching Tomahawk missiles during Operation Desert Strike in 1996 and supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. The ship also provided humanitarian aid during Operation Unified Assistance following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami in Indonesia.

For 17 years starting in August 2006, the cruiser was forward-deployed to Yokosuka, Japan, where it conducted patrols and multinational exercises to support maritime security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The ship is scheduled to move to the naval reserve.
