The USS Theodore Roosevelt strike group is preparing to deploy from San Diego to the Middle East within the coming weeks. The mission is expected to last at least seven months, though crews have been instructed to plan for up to eight months due to ongoing military operations and tensions with Iran.

The Roosevelt will relieve the USS George Washington, which recently arrived in the region from Japan. The George Washington, in turn, replaced the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has faced significant challenges during its extended deployment. Reports indicate the Lincoln spent over 250 days at sea without a port visit, leading to supply shortages and psychological strain among its 5,000 sailors. The Lincoln is currently scheduled for a port call in Thailand to allow the crew to rest.

Admiral Daryl Caudle, Chief of Naval Operations, noted that while the Navy prefers seven-month deployments, combat requirements and enemy actions may necessitate extensions. The continuous presence of aircraft carriers in the Arabian Sea has been maintained since late February to support military operations and enforce naval blockades. This rotation also leaves the Pacific region temporarily without a US aircraft carrier, as the George Washington moves to the Middle East.
