USSI Global Prepares Broadcasters for FCC Upper C-Band Spectrum Shift

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) moved forward on July 22 with rules to auction 160 MHz of Upper C‑Band spectrum by July next year, marking the next phase of the C‑band clearing effort. USSI Global, a 35‑year‑old broadcast‑technology firm based on Florida’s Space Coast, says it is ready to assist U.S. broadcasters, satellite network operators and media organizations through the complex migration.

USSI Global, which helped manage the earlier transition that repurposed the lower 300 MHz of C‑band for wireless services, will offer engineering, project‑management and managed services for the new shift. Its offerings include site surveys, RF engineering, terrestrial IP connectivity, equipment procurement, logistics, field deployment and ongoing operational support. The company also runs a hardware‑agnostic Media Transport Solutions Lab where customers can test delivery workflows across satellite, terrestrial IP, cloud, 5G/LEO and other platforms before committing to production.

Ted Korte, USSI Global’s Vice President of Engineering and Technology, emphasized that each broadcaster’s network is unique and that “the future of media distribution will almost certainly involve a combination of technologies rather than a single transport platform.” CEO Anthony Morelli added that the firm’s goal is to minimize operational risk and ensure uninterrupted media distribution throughout the transition.
