USTEC union warns of potential teacher strike in Catalonia

The USTEC teachers' union in Catalonia has indicated that canceling the planned strike for September 8, the first day of the school year, is unlikely due to a lack of ongoing negotiations with the Department of Education.

Spokesperson Iolanda Segura stated that the last contact with the Education Counselor occurred in early July, and no further communication has been received despite the union's requests to open talks. The union is seeking to negotiate the implementation of an agreement made with CCOO and UGT, as well as a pact from the end of the previous school year that USTEC members rejected in an internal consultation.

While the union has not ruled out a resolution, any potential progress must be ratified by teaching assemblies. Segura emphasized that the window for negotiation is narrow and urged the government to take action to resolve the crisis.
