Ustica Municipality retains management of Ustica Marine Protected Area
The Municipality of Ustica has been officially confirmed as the managing entity for the Ustica Marine Protected Area, Italy's first marine reserve. This confirmation follows a decree from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, signed by Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin on June 23, and published in the Official Gazette on August 4, 2026.
The decree ensures administrative and operational continuity for the Mediterranean ecosystem, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the reserve's establishment in 1986.
