UTA union elections face allegations of voter roll irregularities

Lawyer Leandro Recalde has reported significant irregularities regarding the upcoming elections for the Unión Tranviarios Automotor (UTA) union in Argentina. Recalde alleges that approximately 3,000 members have disappeared from the national voter rolls and that opposition lists, specifically the Lista Negra, are facing intimidation and obstacles intended to favor the current leadership under Roberto Fernández.

Specific allegations include the late delivery of voter rolls and threats against female candidates to force resignations, which would subsequently disqualify lists for failing to meet gender quota requirements. In San Juan, Recalde claims that over 60% of the 2,212 registered voters do not meet legal requirements, such as the minimum six-month seniority, and that the rolls include deceased individuals, unemployed persons, and workers from unrelated industries.

Furthermore, the opposition noted that voter rolls were distributed without addresses, leaving approximately 70,000 drivers unaware of their designated polling locations. Due to a lack of response from the union's Electoral Board, the opposition has filed two legal resources with the Justicia Nacional del Trabajo, which has requested an urgent explanation from the UTA.
