Utah college sports updates: BYU hires Rob Neilson as women's volleyball coach and Utah basketball unveils non‑confer­en

Brigham Young University announced the hiring of former men's volleyball champion Rob Neilson as the new head coach of its women's volleyball program. Neilson, who led BYU's men's team to a national title and rebuilt Utah State's program, will take over the Cougars in the 2025‑26 season, succeeding Heather Olmstead.

The University of Utah released its 2026‑27 men's basketball non‑conference schedule. The Utes will host several opponents at the Huntsman Center, including Washington, California, and in‑state rivals Weber State and Southern Utah, and will travel to play UNLV, Nevada, Oregon, and others. The schedule also features participation in the Charleston Classic with teams such as Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Northwestern, Dayton and Oklahoma State.
