Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith discusses NBA sanctions and team rebuilding
Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith has commented on the NBA's recent disciplinary actions against Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer. The league punished the Clippers for circumventing the salary cap, resulting in a $30 million fine, a one-year suspension for Ballmer, and the loss of five future first-round draft picks.
Smith expressed support for Ballmer personally, describing him as a “standup individual” and noting his positive impact on the NBA. Smith stated he is glad Ballmer accepted the punishment so the league can “turn the page and move on.”
Separately, the Utah Jazz are entering the 2026-27 season with a rebuilt roster. Following the previous trades of Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell, the team has integrated several young players acquired through the draft and trades, including Keyonte George, Lauri Markkanen, and Jaren Jackson Jr., aiming to become competitive in the Western Conference.
