Utah Judge Allows Cameras, Delays Hearing in Charlie Kirk Murder Trial
State District Judge Tony Graf rejected Tyler Robinson’s request to ban cameras and live‑TV in the courtroom, permitting news outlets to film, photograph and livestream the high‑profile murder trial of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Graf said electronic media “provides a means to facilitate the public’s right of access to court proceedings” and that livestreaming “allows as many people as are interested to observe the justice system at work.”
The judge also granted the defense’s motion to postpone Robinson’s preliminary hearing, moving it from mid‑May to July 6‑10, citing the large volume of discovery the defense must review. Robinson, 23, is charged with aggravated murder and faces the death penalty. Prosecutors and Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, argued that transparency is essential to counter misinformation and conspiracy theories surrounding the September 10, 2025 shooting at Utah Valley University. Restrictions remain on camera placement—behind the defendant—and on photographing his shackles or close‑ups.
