Utah Man Arrested for Arson in American Fork Canyon Timp Fire

Conrad Jared Larsen, a 46‑year‑old resident of West Jordan, Utah, was arrested and booked on July 15 on suspicion of second‑degree felony arson for the Timp Fire that burned about two acres in American Fork Canyon. Investigators allege Larsen fed a campfire near the Timpooneke Campground, adding sticks and a large log while a lighter was found in his back pocket and a strong smoke odor emanated from his vehicle.

The fire, reported on July 9, prompted evacuation of the Timpooneke Campground and the nearby Mutual Dell area, and led to temporary closures of recreation sites in the canyon. Damage and suppression costs were estimated to exceed $5,000. No injuries were reported. Larsen had a prior arson conviction from a 2017 fire near the same area, which prosecutors say reflects a pattern of offenses. The case remains pending; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
