Utah municipalities propose major recreation bonds for November vote

Local governments in Utah are moving forward with significant recreation-related bond proposals to be decided by voters in the November 3 general election.

In Summit County, Basin Recreation has scaled back its proposed general obligation bond from $150 million to a maximum of $71 million. This reduction follows feedback from the Summit County Council and the public, shifting the focus from two new indoor facilities to a single primary recreation center. The Snyderville Basin Special Recreation District Administrative Control Board has recommended this revised amount to the County Council.

In Salt Lake County, officials have approved a $128 million 10-year bond proposal. This amount was increased from an initial $100 million to include a new recreation center in West Jordan and a civic campus in Salt Lake City. The funds are intended for dozens of projects, including maintenance and improvements to existing parks and recreation centers across the county. Officials state that the bond will not increase property taxes for residents when accounting for the repayment of previous debt.
