Utah postal worker indicted for allegedly dumping 300 mail-in ballots
A former United States Postal Service letter carrier, 34-year-old Damon Matai Seei, has been federally indicted for allegedly dumping more than 300 mail-in ballots in a church parking lot dumpster in Eagle Mountain, Utah. The incident occurred on June 3, during the lead-up to the state’s June 23 primary election.
According to the Department of Justice, Seei was entrusted with delivering mail to at least 300 residents, which included hundreds of clearly marked ballots. Prosecutors allege that Seei separated the ballots from his other mail and discarded them shortly after starting his shift. The breach was discovered after local residents reported not receiving their voting materials, leading to an investigation by the USPS Office of Inspector General and Homeland Security Investigations.
Seei has pleaded not guilty to federal charges of unlawful secretion, destruction, and delay of mail. During investigations, Seei reportedly stated he had no political motive and acted out of laziness to lighten his workload. If convicted, he could face up to five years in federal prison. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 30.
