Utah teenager 3D-prints custom wheelchair for toddler

Zac Waters, a 13-year-old from Lehi, Utah, spent approximately 300 hours over the summer designing and 3D-printing a custom wheelchair for a 21-month-old girl with a disability.

Inspired by the nonprofit organization MakeGood, which uses 3D printing to create assistive devices, Waters applied his hobby to help a child in need. The custom wheelchair features several specialized components, including a tray table, a removable cup holder, and a backrest designed to accommodate heavy medical equipment.

To ensure the device remains useful as the child develops, the design includes adjustable footrests and headrests. The chair also features pink finishes to match the child's favorite color and uses soft, flexible materials for the straps to ensure comfort.
