Utah Utes football focuses on culture and process under new leadership

Under first-year head coach Morgan Scalley, the undefeated Utah Utes (6-0) have emphasized a culture of teamwork and incremental improvement. Scalley utilizes “Culture Clips” during weekly film sessions to highlight selfless plays, such as offensive linemen protecting the quarterback or teammates celebrating sideline successes, rather than focusing solely on individual statistics.

Complementing this cultural shift, offensive line coach Jordan Gross has implemented a “chop wood and carry water” mantra. Inspired by Joshua Medcalf’s book, the group focuses on the unglamorous daily processes required for success. Despite replacing all five starters from the previous season, the offensive line has emerged as a strength, recently earning the Big 12’s weekly offensive line award.
